(Yaaseen) 36 : 47

And when it is told to them: “You spend from what Allah has given to you as sustenance”, the disbelievers will ask those who believed: “Should we feed those whom Allah can feed if He intends! Indeed you are in nothing except manifest astray”.

The hypocritical disbelievers are niggardly themselves and command others to be niggardly, as explained in verses 4:37-38. When they are reminded by Adhikr that the aim of life is to prepare Paradise from this world by utilizing all favors that were neither brought when entering this world nor will be taken away when leaving it, the disbelievers who do not consider the Lord as Impartial ask: “Is not the sustenance of everyone fixed by the Lord, and is not Paradise and Hell given by Allah to whom He wills?” These hypocrites, who prefer the bodily and worldly life over the soul and Hereafter, also say that by advising to spend for whom Allah has not intended to feed, you are in clear error. There is no surprise for a believer to hear such arguments from these Fujjar, whose similitude is that of a dog that won’t change its attitude whether it is disturbed or not, as explained in verses 7:175-176. See explanation 2:254; 5:64; 9:67-68.
